Climate Camp Cymru CEL members Maria Nita and Ruth Jarman attended climate camp cymru last weekend, where over 200 people camped just yards away from the huge opencast coal mine Ffos-y-Fran at Merthyr Tydfil.
Ruth Jarman said "We were there to support the protest against coal which in the words of James Hansen, chief scientist at NASA is 'the single greatest threat to civilisation and all life on our planet.'"
Powered by solar, wind and pedal power, and fed on vegan and local produce, much of it generously donated by local people, the camp showed that an alternative, sustainable way of living is possible. Local residents joined the camp for discussions and workshops and the mass walk along the road over-looking the mine on the Saturday.
