Crook Methodist Church, Co Durham

Actions carried out by House Group Members for which the
Christian Ecology Link
Millennium Challenge Certificate
was presented on 22 Oct 2000
- Nature conservation:
Sponsored a bird box at the local nature reserve. Paid for two trees to be planted through the Woodland Trust
- Transport:
Cycle to work instead of using a car

- 3. Composting: Kitchen waste is composted where possible. Egg boxes and other cardboard is used in the compost heap to provide bulk
- Energy efficiency: Replace light bulbs with longlife bulbs
Use: Ecoballs are used in automatic washing machine instead of liquid or powder, saving also on cardboard and plastic packaging
- Use up: Attach the end bit of soap to a new soap bar instead of throwing it away. Left over odds and ends of wool are knitted into Oxfam tops
- Refuse: New carriers bags.. by using a shopping bag or recycled carrier bags
- Re-use: Margarine containers are used for fridge and freezer storage, and as seed trays and pots in the garage. Carriers are used in waste bins. Christmas cards are cut up to make greetings cards. Odds and ends are saved for use by the Primary and Infant school teacher: calendar pictures, cereal boxes, bottle and jar tops, plastic containers

- Recycle: Newspapers, bottles, cans and meals-on-wheels foil trays. Polythene wrappers and bags are sent to a firm in Norwich for recycling. Christmas and Birthday cards are sent to the Boots' scheme
