Earth Care

Conference organised by
Bradford Diocese
(This is an ecumenical event open to all:)

Over 133 people attend the "Earth Care" event - See the pictures

at St Andrews Church Hall, Newmarket Street, Skipton BD23 2JE
23 October 10 am - 4.30 pm.
Note 17-24 Oct is One World Week and this year's theme is "Your move"

'EarthCare - Sustainable Approaches to Living and Dying'.

Speakers include:
Rt Revd David James, Bishop of Bradford and
Josephine Speyer, Director of the London-based Natural Death Centre.

Buffet of environmentally friendly food: Where possible - Locally produced, organically grown, animal friendly and fairly traded (LOAF) including a large Cheese donated by Wenselydale Creamery. Other donations welcome..

10.00am Coffee and Registration
Sign up for afternoon workshops if possible
10.30am Introduction by Bishop David James: welcome and introduction: the links between church and the environment
10.45-12.30pm Speaker: Josefine Speyer from the Natural Death Centre, London Delegates will be split into 5 groups led by Josefine Speyer, Bishop David James, Sam Randall, Gill Jacques and Chris Weston to answer questions and hear of others' experiences.
12.30pm-1.15pm Lunch on LOAF principles Delegates confirm 2 preferences for the afternoon workshops
1.15pm Afternoon speakers share platform 3-4 minutes each to give introductions to the following workshops + Lollypop (nappies)
1.45pm Delegates will have the opportunity to attend two of the sessions below for a duration of approx 50 mins each

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust: Living Church Yards
Eco-Congregation : Find out about this scheme for churches
Nature Walk - The Wilderness - 4 min walk from the Conference - in the Centre of Skipton

3.50 Open discussion and Evaluation
4.15pm Closing blessing led by St John's Hurst Green
4.30pm Disperse
DISPLAYS - ample space around the edge of main hall for displays and stalls, to accommodate participants, competitions, and to be a platform for local enterprises appropriate to the theme of the day.

There will be a loop system and signing.

In preparation for this conference two activities are being organised:

1. "Churchyard Wildlife Gems Display"

We invite churches, individuals or goups to submit a photographic or painting display of items of interest in their West or North Yorkshire churchyard. We suggest an A2 poster including two large pictures and a little  text.

2. A4 Poster/T-shirt Competition on a

Save the World - Earth Care theme. (Competition entries to be sent in by Fri 10 Sept to Kadugli House) A4 size, any medium. Prizes for different age groups.
