is a toolkit to help you to live a more simple, more Christian lifestyle.

It is designed to be used by house groups, small communities or just simply groups of households. There are no hard and fast rules. Although we recommend that you study all the modules in the order listed, each module is complete in itself and can be studied in any order. You can study as many modules as you wish. It can also be studied by individuals working on their own, although the full benefit comes from being able to discuss ideas within a group setting.

The Structure of EcoCELL

In order to make changes to your life you need a starting point. The golden rule is to "Start from where you are" but you need to know where that is. For this reason every module incorporates a measuring process. This should not to be viewed as a chore but rather as a voyage of discovery. Your first measurements give you firm ground from which to start your voyage into a life that is orientated towards God's ways . As the weeks go by you can see how you are moving towards a life that is not dependent upon consuming more, but upon living simply.

Each module contains a section on biblical and theological reflection, which makes it ideal for use with house groups and study groups. All quotations are taken from the New International Version of the Bible unless otherwise stated.

The Modules

Module 1 - Introductory Session e1-introduction.doc

Setting the scene for the course

Module 2 - Waste e2-waste.doc

A theme that will recur throughout the whole EcoCELL course. This section deals with what steps can be taken to reduce waste, to avoid throwing stuff away. We will learn that there is is no such place as 'away'. Waste is the scourge of our society.

Module 3 - Shopping and Food e3-shopping-food.doc

Probably the most important area in our lives, where major changes can be made.

Module 4 - Energy in the home e4-energy.doc

One of the most talked about, but least understood areas, when it comes to environmental concern.

Module 5 - Water e5-water.doc

The least considered area of concern, but possibly about to become very important as global water scarcity becomes commonplace.

Module 6 - Travel and Transport e5-travel.doc

The most contentious area, that affects everybody to a greater or lesser extent. We are very defensive of our right to personal transport and unlimited travel, but what effect does that have on society as a whole, and on our environment?

For more details of Ecocell, contact Tony Emerson (44 Leigham Vale, Streatham, London SW16 2JQ, tel. 020 8769 4078; email.) Tony took over as co-ordinator in 2009 from Pete Redwood, who led the development of the programme
