1. CEL SIGNS UP TO 10:10

CEL has signed up to the 10:10 campaign.
What is 10:10? It's a pledge to cut your greenhouse gas emissions by
10 per cent by Christmas 2010. http://www.1010uk.org/
CEL has prepared a short article about the 10:10 campaign for people
to use in Parish Magazines www.christian-ecology.org.uk/m1001.htm

What is CEL doing itself for 10:10?

1. The majority of CEL's 12 member Steering Committee have signed up
to the 10:10 campaign. (Some who have not signed are people who have
already cut down a lot and do not see how they can reduce their
carbon use by a further 10 per cent this year)

2. CEL will encourage its members to sign up for 10:10

3. CEL will encourage its members to encourage their churches to sign up for
10:10
We are already doing this by producing resource material - leaflets
and a seven module programme called Ecocell.
www.christian-ecology.org.uk/ecocells.htm

4. CEL will look at the way its voluntary officers do their work for CEL
and see if this work can have its carbon cut by another 10 (This is
unlikely since we have already cut our physical meetings per year from
5 to 3) and replaced the intermediate meetings with telephone
conferences. Transport, and heating and electricity in the people's
houses who do CEL work) must be the main CO2 producers.

2. ECOCELL CD AVAILABLE ONLINE

A reminder that the Ecocell CD which is available from Tony Emerson
for £5-00 is also downloadable free as a zip file from
http://www.christian-ecology.org.uk/ecocell.htm

We would be really pleased to hear from groups or individuals that are
using this. If several groups are using it this spring, perhaps we
could put people in touch with each other.
May be we could also form a small email group made up of individuals
who use it this spring - or we could arrange telephone conferences
for people to discuss how it is going.

Do get in touch with Tony at ecocell@christian-ecology.org.uk

3. LOCAL GROUPS

CEL now has 16 local groups - see
www.christian-ecology.org.uk/local-groups.htm

David Hughes has made a map showing where local groups from various
green Christian organisations in the UK are situated, including the CEL
local groups.

http://ew.ecocongregation.org/localgroups

See if there is a group near you - and if you have a group that David
does not know about do contact him!

4. DISPLAY CEL MATERIAL AT YOUR CHURCH

Please make use of CEL leaflets and Storm of Hope Brochures to
display at your church. You can download and print leaflets from
www.christian-ecology.org.uk/resources.htm or send off for a small
selection from resources@christian-ecology.org.uk

The recently updated "Nine Ways to live gently on the earth" is very
useful and popular
www.christian-ecology.org.uk/nine-ways.pdf

Thank you to the ten or so people who have already requested batches of
the 2010 version of the Storm of Hope brochure to be sent to them
next month. If more of you would like to order between 10 and 30,
there is still time to order. Please email info@christian-ecology.org.uk

5. METHODISTS' NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION - TO CUT CARBON EMISSIONS BY 10
PER CENT WITHIN A YEAR

Revd Dr Martyn Atkins, General Secretary of the Methodist Church,
signed up to the 10:10 campaign on 6 Jan on behalf of over 100 staff
at Methodist Church House in London. Throughout 2010, staff will work
to cut 10 per cent off the building?s energy use... Read more at
http://bit.ly/6S2i13

Any Methodists reading this - do alert your church to the above fact.
Also remind them about the booklet:-
Hope in God's Future - Christian Discipleship in the Context of
Climate Change http://bit.ly/4rVs7x
It is now possible to buy this book from Methodist Publishing House
for £5-00 or to download the pdf file (60 sides,= 15 double sided A4)
There are study guides explaining how a group can study the book in
one evening, in two evenings or as a day event..

6. PEACE SUNDAY, 17 JAN - ENVIRONMENT THEME.

http://www.paxchristi.org.uk/PeaceSunday.html The Pope said
"If you want to cultivate peace, protect creation."

Martin Davis of Cheltenham Christian Ecology Link writes:
"A reminder of this coming Sunday's hour of prayer for peace, 3 - 4
p.m. in the Lady Chapel, St Gregory's Church, St James' Square,
Cheltenham. If you are unable to come, you may nevertheless like to
join us in prayer, perhaps using some or all of the meditations we
will be using." (Ed: these have been put at
http://www.christian-ecology.org.uk/pfp.doc
