CHRISTIAN ECOLOGY LINK PRESS RELEASE 1 MARCH 2010

--Ten Must-know features about Cameroon (in West Africa) Wildlife --

http://rainforest-save.blogspot.com and
http://www.christian-ecology.org.uk/cameroon-wildlife.htm

-- and the Women's World Day of Prayer --
http://www.wwdp-natcomm.org

The Women’s World Day of Prayer, this year on Friday 5th March,
happens every year and is celebrated in countries throughout the
world. Denominations join together for this. Look out for a service
held near you. This year the Women of Cameroon have written the
service. The theme is:

"Let Everything that has Breath Praise God"

This year is the International Year of Biodiversity.
http://www.biodiversityislife.net/

Christian Ecology Link (CEL) Web Editor Dr Judith Allinson, who
visited Cameroon several years ago is keen for people to learn and
pray about the wildlife of Cameroon, in this the International Year
of Biodiversity and has written a page about the
Wildlife of Cameroon. She would like to offer the information to
people wanting to include a little about Cameroon wildlife in their
Service. The article is at:-

http://rainforest-save.blogspot.com and
http://www.christian-ecology.org.uk/cameroon-wildlife.htm

Some interesting points in her article:

* the West African Subspecies of the Black Rhino
of northern Cameroon became declared extinct in 2006

* the wild tree Allanblackia nuts are to be collected for
nut oil (announced on IUCN site on 24 Feb 2010).

* Gorillas and chimpanzees and African elephant can be found in some
forests but are being shot for bushmeat. Increasingly affluent
people in the towns are prepared to pay for bushmeat so poaching
is increasing.

* Between 1990 and 2005 Cameroon lost 13.4 of its Forest Cover, or
around 33,000 sq km

* The Western forests of Cameroon form part of the Guinean Forests
of West Africa Biodiversity Hotspot.

* Plus. Many more interesting facts.

One paragraph of the Women's World Day of Prayer Service says:

'We praise God for the beauty of our countries. In Cameroon
..we praise God for the mines, for the forest, for the Dja,
Limbe and Campo nature reserves, for the rich wildlife, and for
the variety of landscapes..'

Dr Allinson then goes on to give some information about these
reserves.
